Helping Families Navigate the Journey of Special Needs
At Special Voices, we are a voluntary parent carer support group based in Slough, Berkshire, dedicated to supporting families of children and young people with special needs and additional needs. We understand that caring for a loved one with special needs can bring unique challenges, and we are here to ensure that no parent or carer faces them alone.
Through information, support, and guidance, we empower families with the knowledge, resources, and community they need to navigate their journey with confidence.

Our Capabilities
1. Information & Resources
Understanding your child’s needs and knowing where to turn for help can be overwhelming. We provide:
✔ Up-to-date information on local and national services, education, healthcare, and financial support.
✔ Guides on key topics, including EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plans), disability rights, benefits, respite care, and more.
✔ Workshops & information sessions featuring expert speakers on important subjects for parents and carers.
2. Emotional & Peer Support
Caring for a child with additional needs can sometimes feel isolating. Special Voices is a community of parents and carers who truly understand. We offer:
✔ A safe and welcoming space to share experiences, ask questions, and support each other.
✔ Regular support groups and drop-in sessions to connect with others facing similar challenges.
✔ One-to-one support for those who need personal guidance.
3. Practical Help & Signposting
Finding the right support services can be confusing. We help by:
✔ Signposting to local and national support organisations, including disability services, advocacy groups, and specialist providers.
✔ Guidance on navigating the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) system, including school placements, funding, and assessments.
✔ Advice on financial support, such as Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Carer’s Allowance, and Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
4. Advocacy & Representation
We work closely with local authorities, schools, and healthcare providers to ensure that parent and carer voices are heard. Our advocacy efforts include:
✔ Engaging with policymakers to improve services for children with special needs.
✔ Raising awareness of the challenges families face.
✔ Helping parents and carers navigate meetings, assessments, and appeals to ensure their children receive the right support.
5. Activities & Events
We organise family-friendly events, workshops, and social gatherings to help families connect, relax, and enjoy quality time together. These include:
✔ Coffee mornings and networking events for parents and carers.
✔ Inclusive activities and outings for children and young people with additional needs.
✔ Awareness and fundraising events to support our work and bring the community together.
